Humming Herbs® Sea Moss Complex is a three-herb capsule supplement providing Irish sea moss extract 300 mg, bladderwrack extract 200 mg and burdock root extract 200 mg per two-capsule serving, all at 20:1 concentration — 700 mg of extract equivalent to 14,000 mg of raw herb — in a bottle of 120 capsules, 60 servings. It is for adults who want the traditional sea moss trio as concentrated extracts rather than plain milled powder.

What does 20:1 mean here?

A 20:1 extract means twenty parts of raw herb were concentrated into one part of extract. Our panel states both figures for each herb, which is the honest way to show it: Irish sea moss extract (Chondrus crispus) 300 mg, equivalent to 6,000 mg of sea moss; bladderwrack extract (Fucus vesiculosus) 200 mg, equivalent to 4,000 mg of bladderwrack; burdock root extract (Arctium lappa) 200 mg, equivalent to 4,000 mg of burdock root. Many sea moss capsules are plain dried powder, where 500 mg on the label is 500 mg of herb.

Why these three herbs?

Sea moss, bladderwrack and burdock root are the traditional trio in Caribbean and folk herbal practice, and they are almost always sold together. Sea moss and bladderwrack are both seaweeds; burdock is a root. Because the seaweeds contain naturally occurring iodine, please read the iodine warning below.

How much should I take?

Two capsules daily with food. The bottle holds 60 servings.

How is this different from our 180-capsule Sea Moss Complex?

Same three herbs, different build and bottle. This SKU is a concentrated 20:1 extract formula — 700 mg of extract per serving, with each herb's raw-equivalent stated — in a 120-capsule bottle, 60 servings. Our 180-capsule Sea Moss Complex is formulated to an 1,100 mg per-serving total over 90 servings. Compare the extract ratio, not just the milligram total.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about this product

How much sea moss does a serving give?

Irish sea moss extract 300 mg at 20:1 per two-capsule serving, which the panel states as equivalent to 6,000 mg of sea moss. The species is Chondrus crispus. Alongside it sit bladderwrack extract 200 mg at 20:1, equivalent to 4,000 mg, and burdock root extract 200 mg at 20:1, equivalent to 4,000 mg.

Is this raw sea moss powder or an extract?

An extract. All three botanicals are 20:1 concentrated extracts, and the raw-herb equivalent of each is printed on the panel: 6,000 mg of sea moss, 4,000 mg of bladderwrack and 4,000 mg of burdock root, from 700 mg of extract in total. A raw powder product would need roughly twenty times the capsule weight to match those equivalents.

How much iodine does it contain?

Sea moss and bladderwrack both contain naturally occurring iodine, and the label says so. The amount is not declared as a row on the Supplement Facts panel, and we will not quote a figure we have not verified against a certificate of analysis. Because of that, consult your physician before use if you have a thyroid condition.

Can I take it with your Iodine Complex or K-Balance?

Not without checking your total iodine intake. The Humming Herbs® Iodine Complex and K-Balance capsules each declare iodine 140 mcg, and this formula contributes naturally occurring iodine from sea moss and bladderwrack on top of that. Take one iodine-containing product at a time unless a healthcare professional has advised you otherwise.

What is burdock root doing in a sea moss formula?

Burdock root, Arctium lappa, is a root long used in traditional herbal practice and is the third of the three botanicals here, at 200 mg of 20:1 extract equivalent to 4,000 mg of root. Sea moss, bladderwrack and burdock are a traditional grouping, which is why they appear together on this panel.

How do I take it, and should I check with a doctor first?

Two capsules daily with food, or as directed by a healthcare professional, which makes the 120-capsule bottle a 60-day supply. Because sea moss and bladderwrack both carry naturally occurring iodine, consult your physician before use if you have a thyroid condition. Consult your healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, taking medication or have a medical condition.
